Weightloss Journey + Body Confidence

Hello Loves!

This post is going to be a little different from what I normally do. Today, I want to talk about my weight loss journey.

I have always struggled with my weight. For as long as I can remember, I didn’t like for my picture to be taken because I knew I was going to look fat. I know the word “fat” means different things to different people but every time I saw a picture of myself all I could think was “Wow, am I really that big?!”

In September of 2014, I had had enough. I knew that I wasn’t healthy and I was the biggest I had ever been. I started my weight loss journey at 204 pounds. In no way, shape or form am I saying that if you weigh 200 pounds you are fat. But, for my body I knew I had a lot of extra weight. I am 5 foot, 4 inches tall with wide shoulders and more of a narrow waist.

I’m going to show you some before pictures first. These range from 2012-2014.

This photo was taken in June 2014, as soon as I saw it, I knew it was time to do something. I didn’t like the way I looked, I didn’t like the way I felt and I made the decision to do something about it.

I started out by doing the South Beach diet. My doctor recommended it and I had heard amazing success stories. So, I went to Walmart and bought the book. I read the book cover to cover, made my grocery list and bought everything I needed for Phase 1. [The diet has 3 different Phases, you can find the information online or by buying the book.]

Phase 1 lasts 2 weeks, in those 2 weeks, I lost 10 pounds! I moved on to Phase 2 and I stuck to it until the holidays came around.

Five weeks after I started, we had family photos taken. I was so shocked about how much I could see the difference. I had lost 20 pounds and I was feeling great!

10885362_10205940048968334_6995928962807311900_n

Then Thanksgiving and Christmas came and I wasn’t losing anything.

I decided to go back to Phase 1 of the diet to jump start my weight loss again.

I lost 12 more pounds and I was so excited! From this point, I went back to Phase 2 with a cheat day every week.

I continued this for about 6 months. My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a trip to Mexico in July. I can’t tell you how nervous I was to wear a bikini in public. My husband said it best, he told me that we would never see the people we met there again and I looked awesome in my new bikinis! So, I rocked them and I felt awesome! There is no reason why you shouldn’t feel good about your body. I worked hard to get where I am now and I was going to show it off!

I am now on Phase 3 of the diet, this Phase lasts forever. The South Beach diet is a lifestyle change. I have learned what to eat and amazing alternative to things I used to love. I will share some of my favorite recipes in a future post. I have recently started attending classes at a local gym and have met some amazing ladies!

Some of my favorite things to do at the gym are cardio on the elliptical, Group Power (a class that works your largest muscles: legs, arms and core) and Yoga.

As of today, I weigh 157 pounds. I went from a size 14/16 to a 6/8. If I can do it, anyone can do it! If you have any questions, you can leave a comment or send me an email. I am always happy to share tips and tricks that I have learned along the way.

My body is still changing and I am still on my way to becoming the best me I can be.

Some of my tips for weight loss:

-Set realistic goals and reward yourself when you reach those goals.

-Eat when you are hungry, not because you are bored.

-It’s okay to slip up every now and then but never give up!

-Don’t weigh yourself everyday, weight loss takes time. I suggest every two weeks.

Thank you so much for reading and a HUGE thank you to all of my friends and family that have encouraged my throughout this process.

XOXO

Why Buy It When You Can DIY It?! [Last Minute Halloween Costumes]

Hello Loves!

Today, I have teamed up with my good friend Candace aka The Trendy Wife to show you some affordable, last minute, DIY Halloween costumes. Whether you got invited to a costume party last minute or you just haven’t had time to plan your costume, we have some ideas that will have you looking fabulous!

For my costumes, I used primarily things that I already had in my wardrobe. Two of them required a quick trip to Hobby Lobby and the other two were done with things I already had at home. Each costume cost me between $0-$7!

I really hope you enjoy and don’t forget to check out Candace’s post for even more ideas!

Fawn/Deer

This one is my absolute favorite and most expensive (if you can call it that)! This is actually the costume that I will be wearing to a Halloween party this weekend. My husband will be wearing camouflage clothing so he can be my hunter. (I will post our couple’s costume on Instagram after the party!)

For my makeup, I took inspiration from Pinterest. I just search deer makeup and thousands of pictures came up. I used all drugstore makeup that I already had in my collection.

IMG_4066

For my face, I used a primer and my regular foundation. Next, I used a very light concealer around my eyes, down my nose and above my brows. I used a very bronze powder on my cheeks and the outer areas of my face. I used a warm, peachy blush on the apples of my cheeks. I used a white eyeliner to draw dots on my forehead and cheeks. I filled in my brows with a dark brown pencil and brought the lines from the inner part of my brows down my nose and finished by using a black eyeliner on the tip of my nose.

IMG_4074

For my eyes, I did a simple neutral eye with intense eyeliner and lashes. I kept the lips neutral with a nude lipsticks and gloss.

IMG_4200

The only thing I bought for this costume was the supplies to make my antlers. I found glittery gold sticks in the Christmas section at Hobby Lobby. I cut them to the length I wanted and hot glued them to a head band, also found at Hobby Lobby.

Put on some black leggings, a cream sweater, a fur vest and boots to complete this costume. (You can really wear whatever you want with this look, a dress would be super cute as well).

Total cost for this costumes was around $7 and took my about 45 minutes for hair and makeup.

P.S. I also saw where a group of friends did a deer, a rabbit and a fox and carried wine bottles/glasses so they were “Party Animals!”

Rosie the Riveter

I love this one! Rosie the Riveter was such an icon for women during World War II. This costume was done with things I already had at home. I used one of my husband’s shirts, jeans, combat boots and a red bandana for this look. The makeup is super simple, I did pretty much the same thing I do everyday but added some lashes and a red lip. Total cost for this was $0 and took me about 20 minutes with hair and makeup.

Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly

For this look, I had to purchase the tiara from the wedding section at Hobby Lobby, its was $12.99 but it was 50% off. I had everything else in my wardrobe. A black dress, pearls and black pumps were Holly’s signature look. For her makeup, I did a neutral eye with a wing and lashes. I used a straw and black tape for her cigarette stick. Total cost for this look was $6.50 plus tax and it took my about 30 minutes for hair and makeup.

Scarecrow

This costume was completely last minute. I had everything I needed already at home for this one.

I did a simple, everyday makeup and added some orange blush to the tip of my nose and drew on the lines with a black eyeliner. This would look more like a scarecrow with a straw hat but all I had at home was a floppy, felt one.

A plaid or flannel shirt, boots & boot socks and some jeans and you’re done. Total cost was $0 and took 15 minutes for hair and makeup! Bonus points if you have some straw or hay laying around to put in your hair.

I hope you enjoyed, this post was so much fun to make! Please share with me on Instagram if you try any of the costumes! Don’t forget to check out Candace’s page for more costume ideas!

As always, thank you so much for your love and support!

Weekend Wear 10.18.2015

Hello loves!

Today was a very productive day! The hubby and I went to a fall festival, got some apples, picked out our pumpkins and decorated our front porch!

I love this outfit! It screams fall and it is my favorite fall combo! This vest is on sale at Belk for $17.99. It reminds me of the J.Crew herringbone vest but for a fraction of the price!

IMG_3786

I started out this morning with my wool sweater, vest and blanket scarf. I am still in love with this scarf and I love it even more with my herringbone vest.

IMG_3783

My boot are a new purchase from Belk. They were on sale for $39.99! I love the color and the boot socks are the perfect height for these boots.

IMG_3772

The strappy detail is what made these stand out above all the other boots.

IMG_3779

At about noon, I had to get rid of the scarf! It warmed up a lot! The festival was outside with no shade so we were right in the sun!

IMG_3782

We had so much fun at the festival and got some pretty great goodies and some really great food!

IMG_3770

Apple dumplings with vanilla ice cream?! Yes, please!

IMG_3752

Monkey Farts?! Surprisingly, that candle smelt really good.

IMG_3799

Our front porch is ready for fall! I love the way my little project turned out!

IMG_3785

Sweater: Thrifted/ Vest: Belk / Boots: Similar/ Jeans: Target/ Scarf: Love That Monogram / Boot Socks: TJ Maxx/

Thank you so much for all of your support! It means the world to me! I am so excited for some upcoming posts!

October Ipsy Glam Bag.

Hello Loves!

It is my favorite time of the month! IPSY GLAM BAG TIME! Wooohooo!!! I knew when I saw my sneak peek online I was going to love this bag!

IMG_3238

The cosmetic bag this month is a nice metallic gold color, perfect for fall!

IMG_3247

The first item that caught my eye was the Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick (whew, what a name!)

IMG_3243

It is a gorgeous neutral, my lips but better color. It is very long wearing but also very drying on the lips. I would recommend using a good lip moisturizer before application.

IMG_3267

I wore this color all day and only reapplied after lunch. It gets an A+ from me.

IMG_3259

I have been a fan of MICA Beauty Cosmetics for a few years. This cream shadow in Bronze is a beautiful fall color. It applies very smooth and stays all day with minimal creasing.

IMG_3262

This shadow is VERY long lasting. I could not get this swatch to come off my hand! It took a very strong eye makeup remover to get it off.

IMG_3251

I am familiar with the dr.brandt skincare line because of my Ipsy bags. I have 4 or 5 products from this brand. This exfoliant leaves my skin nice and smooth without being too harsh. It has a nice, fresh lemon scent as well.

IMG_3257

I am loving these Emite Makeup tweezers. They are great quality and work very well because of the nice sharp point. They are great to keep on hand when you have a stubborn out of place hair.

IMG_3253

This BWC (Beauty without Cruelty) is a nice addition to the bag. In my opinion, it is nothing special besides that fact that it is cruelty-free. It has a nice fresh scent and doesn’t leave a greasy residue on the skin.

Overall, I enjoyed this months bag. My stand out products were the MICA Beauty cream shadow and the Matt(e) lipstick. I cant wait to see what they have coming up for the holiday bags!

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to stop by!

Sign up for Ipsy!

Why Buy It When You Can DIY It?! [Graphic T-shirt]

Hello Loves!!!

I hope everyone is having a great week so far! I have a quick little DIY post that was requested by a few people when I posted this picture on Instagram.

IMG_3001

This shirt is so simple to make! You only need three (yes, three!) things to make your own! I picked up everything I needed from Hobby Lobby for less than $12! Plus I had an iron already at home.

***SHOPPING TIP: Wait for the decals to go on sale for 50% off and use a 40% coupon for your shirt!.***

This is everything you need!

IMG_3010

IMG_3020

These are the iron on decals I bought, I got 2 packs because you only get 2 of each letter in each pack.

The first thing I did was lay my shirt flat on the floor and start spacing out the letters how I wanted them. The letters are very easy to peel off and work with.

IMG_3016

Once you have your letters in place, very carefully press your iron onto each section and hold for about 15-20 seconds. You can see where some of my letters shifted around so it’s not perfect but that’s okay! After you have all of the letters ironed on, turn the shirt inside out and do the same thing on the inside of the shirt.

*When you wash your shirts, make sure you turn them inside out.

And you’re done! How easy was that?! And I had tons of extra letters so I decided to make another one with a shirt I had laying around the house!

IMG_3022

IMG_3036

These were some much fun to make, I love taking something I see on Pinterest or Instagram and learning how to make it myself. I hope you enjoyed! If you decide to make one, please share with me on Instagram @cheapgirlchic!

Let me introduce you to my $12 dress…

Yes, I said $12!! For this beautiful dress! I found her on the clearance rack at Belk when they were having an additional 50% off! It has rained everyday for the past week so I needed some color in my life!

Last but certainly not least is my ‘Bruch So Hard’ shirt I found at Target. I used the cartwheel app for an additional 25% off and paid less than $10 for it.
